Tukdah Cantonment Homestay was a British cantonment before the independence of India. It was the perfect destination for many British officers of high rank from all over India. Takdah was abandoned by the new order after independence, like many other towns and villages. People started to settle down recently in the area. There is an old, abandoned club house which is just a km away from the town which is particularly the central attraction of Tukdah.

During the 1960’s the tea bushes were uprooted and new ones were planted in order to gain a good quality first flush.
  • • Tukdah tea estate produces about 2million kilograms of tea. It is a bio organic tea estate. You should definitely indulge yourself in tea tasting here.
  • • There are many medieval British houses that have been renovated and converted into homestays. Some of the others have been taken over by establishments like schools.

Lamahatta Park, Darjeeling :

It is a lovely mountain village about 23kms from Darjeeling. Pine forests and gardens surround it from all sides. The place offers panoramic views of Mt. Kanchenjunga .It is an ideal holiday destination for tourists who wish to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban life and enjoy serenity and solitude. There are many rare and beautiful species of flowers carpeting the landscape and surrounding gardens.

Tiger Hill, Darjeeling :

Tiger Hill is the highest point of Ghoom. It is the highest railway station in the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is ideal to visit the place early morning when the first rays of the sun strike Mt. Kanchenjunga and give it a golden color which is exhilarating to see. If you want to visit the hill you have to wake up at 3AM in the morning. On your way to the hill, you can sip a cup of Darjeeling tea which will provide much needed warmth on cold Darjeeling mornings. There will always be a risk if you are traveling in a shared taxi as the other passenger might end up late causing you to miss the sunrise. If you are traveling alone or as a couple, you might want to squeeze into an already occupied jeep to insure full viewing pleasure.

Triveni View Point :

It is an offbeat place that lies on the way to Kalimpong. The place is rapidly becoming one of the top sightseeing places in Darjeeling. You can get a beautiful view of the valleys as well as the confluence of the river Teesta and Rangeet from here. You can also see some sandy delta forming at the confluence. This particular sandy area is used for launching white water rafting in Teesta.

Deolo Hill :

It is the highest point of Kalimpong town. Deolo is located north east of the town. There are three water reservoirs, two of which serve as the primary drinking water source to the town. You can get a beautiful view of the town of Kalimpong, the surrounding villages of Relli valley, Teesta River and its valleys from here.

Via Roadway:

Reserved cabs are available from Siliguri. You have to take the NH55 highway till Jorebunglow and from there you have to follow the Darjeeling–Kalimpong Highway till you reach 6th mile. Distance from Siliguri : 72kms (approx)

Via Railway:

Nearest railway station is NJP and Siliguri Junction. From there you can book a taxi that will take you to Tukdah. Distance : 79kms (approx)

Via Airway:

Nearest Airport is Bagdogra from there you can hire a car that will take you to Tukdah. Distance : 76kms (approx)

Best time to visit Tukdah Cantonment Homestay

The ideal time to visit Tukdah Cantonment Homestay would be during the months of April to mid May as the weather is perfect. Most of the tourists visit during these months. However if you want the best experience then do plan your visit during the months of October and mid November as the skies are perfectly clear. You can see beautiful sunsets during this time. The view of the mountain and the valleys are breathtaking.
