Lava : The quaint and Charming Hamlet

Lava is the main portal for the famous Neora Valley National Park. The village is surrounded by dense forest of coniferous trees. It is a paradise for trekkers. As a result, tourists can go for trekking to Samthar Plateau by starting from Gompa Dara which is located close to Lava. As a result, there are many varieties of species of birds like Blue Robins, Fulvetta, Finch, Wren Babblers and lot more making this place ideal for birdwatchers.

Loleygaon

It is basically a quiet and peaceful village. Loleygaon is filled with huge pine trees and cypress forests. There are many view points in the village offering sweeping views of Kanchenjunga range. The place is also filled with a wide range of orchids and other flowering plantations. This place is a paradise for birdwatchers. The most popular attraction of the place is the canopy walk. As a result, there is a long hanging wooden tree-top bridge about 180meters long that goes through the dense jungle.

There is a gradual increase in the height of the bridge. You can walk through the tree tops amidst dense forest and admire the beautiful scenery. Initially there are few stairs to climb to the bridge. Finally, after you are done with the climb you can walk through the canopy of the forest and enjoy the lovely atmosphere.

Pedong

It a small village in the Kalimpong district of West Bengal. Pedong is one of the best places to visit near Kalimpong. As a result, the tourists can get a commanding panoramic view of the Kanchenjunga and the surrounding mountains. 200 years old Pine Tree is located at the heart of the town because of which the name Pedong was derived. The village of Pedong is one of the oldest in this region with significant historical importance. Deolo Hills

Deolo Hill is one of the main attractions of the town of Kalimpong. The town of Kalimpong is situated on a ridge connecting the two hills, Durpin and Deolo. The Deolo hill is the highest point of Kalimpong town. The hill is known to be the 10th-highest peak in the Indian state of West Bengal. If the skies are clear then you can also see the snow-clad mountains of West Sikkim from this hill. A park built for recreation purposes at the top of the hill which feature exotic flowers. Deolo provides the best 360 degree view of Kalimpong town and its neighboring hills.

Closest railway station is NJP. You have to hire a car from NJP or Siliguri. You can also take a bus that will take you till Pedong which is the closest town to Rikisum Homestay. If you are traveling from Siliguri you have to take the Siliguri-Kalimpong highway. From Kalimpong, the village of Rikisum is just a 1hour journey. Distance from Siliguri : 86kms (approx)

Via Airway:

Nearest airport is Bagdogra. From there you can rent a car that will take you to Rikisum. Cabs are also available from Siliguri. Distance from Bagdogra : 93kms (approx)

Via Railway:

Nearest railway station is NJP and Siliguri Junction. From NJP you can hire cabs that will take you directly to Rikisum. Distance from NJP : 90kms (approx)

Best time to visit homestay in Rikisum

The ideal time to visit Rikisum would be during the months of October to mid-November. The skies are clear during these months and you will be able to get an amazing view of the Kanchenjunga.
